Technical Tips and Help Kaspersky Administration Kit Key Terms KAV Admin Server - The KAV Admin Server stores network and program configuration info and other core administrative functions. The KAV Admin Server's interface is the KAV Admin Console. KAV Admin Console - Provides an administrative interface to manage the KAV Admin Server. The KAV Admin Console is refered to as an "administrator workstation" in the official Kaspersky Lab documentation. It is installed with the Admin Server by default and can also be installed on a remote host. KAV Workstation - Computer running KAV Workstation 5.0 administered by a KAV Admin Kit. KAV File Server - Computer running KAV File Server 5.0 administered by a KAV Admin Kit. NOTE: Beginning with version 5.0 KAV File Server requires the KAV Admin Kit be installed. There is no native GUI with KAV File Server 5.0. KAV Network Agent - Communication module installed during KAV Admin Kit installation. The Net Agent must be deployed to remote KAV Workstations or KAV File Servers prior to remote product deployment. Installation Components Required and Order of Installation
- The KAV Admin Server and KAV Admin Console by default are installed together. This configuration requires the MSDE component be installed first. This is the recommended configuration. - Optionally the KAV Admin Console can be installed on a different host, provided it connects to the KAV Admin Server as a user with administrator logon rights. The host running the KAV Admin Server requires the MSDE component, the host running the KAV Admin Console does NOT. - The KAV Admin Console will always be installed along with the KAV Admin Server and can be used in place of a remotely installed KAV Admin Console if needed. - Users upgrading should uninstall the existing version of KAV Admin Kit via Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs. DO NOT remove any Kaspersky folders or files that remain after uninstalling. These folders and files will be used later to import your network configuration data from the earlier version. -KAV Admin Kit 5.0 and reside with KAV Admin Kit 4.5 if the earlier version is needed to administer clients that are unable to be upgraded at the time. Important Folders and Files (default locations) Product Files - C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Administration Kit This path can be changed during product installation. Installation Files - C:\KAV5.0\AdministrationKit This path can be changed during product installation. The C:\KAV5.0 folder is used for product file extraction during install. Shared Folder - C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Administration Kit\Share The shared folder "Share" is created by default at installation, though the user has the option of using an existing shared folder. The shared folder is used to store deployment packages as well as database and product update files for KAV applications. Administration Server Certificate - Authentication certificate used to verify connection between KAV Admin Server and KAV Admin Console. Stored in program file's subfolder Cert on KAV Admin Server machine. |
